Our Commitment to Sustainable Development
Chalets Lanaudière is actively committed to sustainable development. Located on the historic territory of Camp Mariste, the company values the protection of the natural environment. It adheres to the 4R principles (recycle, reuse, repair, reduce), manages energy and water resources responsibly, and promotes the use of durable materials like wood.
As a non-profit social enterprise, Chalets Lanaudière dedicates all its profits to supporting the educational mission of Camp Mariste, aiming to help underprivileged children build self-esteem and discover their potential through enriching experiences in a summer camp setting.
In 2023, Chalets Lanaudière obtained the BIOSPHERE© certification in sustainable tourism, becoming the second company in Quebec to achieve this. This certification recognizes sustainable practices aligned with the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
In 2023, the company strengthened its commitment by developing a new sustainable development action plan, including measures to reduce its ecological footprint and contribute to the well-being of its clients and employees while supporting the local economy.
Through these actions, the certification, and the addition of a comprehensive sustainable development plan, we affirm the implementation of eco-responsible practices, including the following:
- Training staff on health and safety issues in the workplace and on individual and collective actions to reduce the impact of climate change.
- Reducing energy consumption and improving energy efficiency by:
- Prioritizing energy-efficient equipment and tracking greenhouse gas emissions using the industry-recommended carbon footprint tool (e.g., replacing lights with high-efficiency LED fixtures indoors and for pathways and activity sites, using push-button faucets in the yurt, cabin, and campground bathroom facilities for showers and sinks, replacing low-flow toilets, and replacing oil heating systems with electric heating systems).
- Optimizing water resource usage by:
- Evaluating and reducing water consumption in facilities.
- Educating clients and staff on reducing water usage.
- Supporting biodiversity protection by:
- Raising awareness of ecosystem fragility, invasive species, and developing a forest management plan.
- Only allowing Chalets Lanaudière’s watercraft on the lakes.
- Prohibiting motorized boats on Lake Morgan, except in emergencies.
- Enhancing customer well-being by:
- Measuring customer satisfaction.
- Collecting verbal and written feedback from clients to improve the customer experience.
- Ensuring personalized human-to-human customer service.
- Supporting the local economy by:
- Prioritizing local purchases.
- Working with local suppliers (e.g., cleaning service companies, excavation companies, etc.).
Chalets Lanaudière continues to advance toward a sustainable transition, focusing on planet preservation, human well-being, and constant improvement of the customer experience.
