Equipment presentation

The skate sled is a piece of equipment that allows the practice of ice skating for anyone with reduced mobility or a disability (suitable for children and adults). It is suitable for independent practice or non-autonomous practice.

REQUIRED CAPABILITIES​​

Autonomous propulsion: Requires good mobility of the upper limbs

Propulsion by assistance: Open to anyone who does not need a head rest (abdominal strap available)

Usage Information

  • Period of use: Winter
    Two propulsion possibilities:
    • Independently: with cross-country ski poles
    • Thanks to a person who pushes the sled backwards, or a person who pulls it using a harness connected to the front of the sled.
  • The Chalets Lanaudière team is there to assist you with installation and give you instructions for use so that you are comfortable using the equipment.

Safety instructions

  • It is strongly recommended to be accompanied at all times.
  • Before your activity, check the weather forecast and local conditions.
  • Bring water and food even if it is an activity for a few hours.
  • Wear appropriate clothing.
    Make sure the equipment is working properly before departure.
  • Make sure you are in good shape before starting your activity.
  • Check the time required to complete your activity.
  • Make sure you have a way to communicate with emergency services if necessary (telephone, whistle, flashlight) – Emergency (911).
  • Don’t overestimate your strengths: choose your routes based on your physical condition.
  • Stay alert to people around you so as not to hurt them with the sticks.
